Instructions for Internship Applicants
  • Carefully review the Internship Requirements
  • Complete the Internship Application.   Be sure to provide us with the best e-mail and phone number for contacting you.
  • Select a First and Second choice internship. See list of possible opportunities e.g., 1st choice: Fish & Invertebrate Husbandry, 2nd choice: Pinniped/Penguin Husbandry. 
  • Submit the following application materials:
    • Cover letter. Tell us about yourself, your interests and career goals.
    • Résumé
    • College transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
    • Recent essay or sample of your writing ability on a topic of your choice. 2 page minimum
    • 2 letters of recommendation. These can be mailed separately to the address on the application.
  • Application packets must arrive by the deadline.  
    • Spring semester (Jan – May )  October 31
    • Summer (Jun – Aug)   February 28
    • Fall (Sept – Dec)   June 30
    • Please note: all applications will be distributed for review immediately after the deadline date.  Late applications will not be accepted. Early applications are appreciated but do not guarantee acceptance.
  • You will receive an e-mail confirmation that your application materials were received.
  • An Aquarium staff member will contact you to set up an interview time. Most interviews are by phone
  • If you are not selected for your first choice, you will be contacted by the Intern Coordinator and your materials    will be forwarded to the department of your second choice. In some cases, a second interview will be conducted.
  • You will receive a final correspondence regarding your status.

Internship Requirements

Acceptance Requirements

The student must be enrolled in or recently graduated from college in order to participate. Internships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. If the student’s college offers credit for internships, it is the student’s responsibility to arrange for the credit.
